The Accusation
06:51
|
|||
I think a witch is in our midst
and I no longer can resist
to cleanse our flock of heresy
(and make sure no one points at me)
You won’t believe the things I saw behind the field, beyond her wall
and since I swear to god today
you can believe me when I say...
I saw her riding on a broom
I saw her hiding in the gloom
I saw her crying to the moon
I saw her take the childs breath
I saw her make the milk turn red
I saw her wake a cat from death
So while I don’t presume to know
what you should do with what I’ve told
I can’t imagine you would not
place her in chains right on the spot
For if you do I’m sure that god
might overlook your sins and all
her property, her plot of land
becomes your own by heaven’s hand…
I saw her love the devil horn
I saw her smother the unborn
I saw her summon thunderstorms
I saw her heal the dying birds
I saw her kneel collecting herbs
I saw her wield the pain of words

The Arrest
10:14
|
|||
Found and grabbed and dragged through town
Accused of the craft, paraded around
My faith crazed neighbors curse and shout
Protect their place as the true devout
I’m a witch and what it means
I try to live in harmony
I harm no one and ask no goods
I think free thoughts you never could
I’ve heard the tales and know the score
Those once accused see freedom no more
I’ll have to try a new approach
I’ll sing out threats and truth untold
I’m a witch and if I can
I’ll burn your churches where they stand
As you have done for many years
To innocents through pain and fear
Seems to me your God of love
has left your heart for skies above
while lust for gold, greed, fear, and hate now rules your mind and dominates
I’m a witch or so you say
though none I’ve harmed or caused dismay
A midwife, healer, friend of birds
I speak for truth unlike your words

The Confession
07:48
|
|||
They said they would test me by watery pool
where drowning proves innocent soul by their rules
Perhaps they might search for the devil-bride mark
with knives topped with crosses, with candles near dark
They sent in a priest to declare me as damned
so my blood would not stain them or poison their lands
Referred to a book blessed and sent by the pope
in the language of latin which none of them spoke
Try as they might I resisted through day and through night
Broken and done I finally give them what they want
The voice of the Goddess, she calls to me now
and comforts me silently without a sound
When put to the press I surrendered a name
I knew to be false but I lied just the same
Forsaking my honesty, pushed to the rim
of pain without death for imaginary sins
And as a reward for my desperate words
they promise to strangle me before I burn

The Execution
10:14
|
|||
White line witchcraft, Heretic healer past life midwife sink or die
in the flame, she shaved and shorn inquisitions worst can’t hide your grace
ash blood red hood & shadow
silently screaming, pierce the night
Goddess cries tears of rain
but it’s not enough to save her now
Wicked witch or innocent pagan?
No one’s sure now that she’s gone
from the village infant death begins to rise
our old and sick only die while praying blindly
our new God brings war and hate
to our lives which once had peace
if we’d only kept her safe from lies!

Mutiny in Jonestown Washington
Influenced by classic 70's progressive rock bands like King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator & Genesis - along with late
60's psychedelia from The Beatles, Procol Harum & Pink Floyd (with a little 70's Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure), Mutiny in Jonestown has always sought to take these influences and synthesize them into something new.
The band has released 42 albums since 1987.
